Can you afford to be without your work computer for a few days, even weeks? Read the following email we recently received from one of our clients pertaining to this vary situation:
“Hello,
My husband’s computer is down and he used mine to check his email and opened a
message that may have contained a virus (it appeared to be from his father). I immediately shutdown and upon reopening all
things appear okay, but as you can imagine, I cannot afford to have my computer
inoperable even for a day. Not sure what you can do, but thought I’d better ask.
Thanks,
Customer XYZ”
Computers Crews takes many proactive measures to help prevent this for you. Managing what a client clicks on however, is something out of our control. Here’s what you can do on your end to ensure that you’re not in the same boat.
How to avoid issues with your work computer
- Limit how much other people use your machine.
- Your work computer is not a toy, and should be used for work not personal use.
- There is no “free” anything. This means don’t use free email services (i.e
– Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.) - Don’t download free music, movies, games, etc.
- Use your phone, iPad, or personal computer for
all non-work related web surfing. - In our experience over 75% of computers that get spyware are laptops. (Reason: Laptops get taken home and are used for personal use, surfing the web, and end up getting spyware)
- How to avoid getting spyware:
-Check the source of emails and attachments. If you don’t know the sender, be cautious of opening the email. If it looks “fishy” then it probably is “fishy.”
- Stay away from suspicious websites. (i.e – Freeware sites, pornographic sites, spam sites, and websites that offer pirated movies, music, etc.)
- Don’t click on web advertisements, pop-ups, coupons, etc.
